1961. Born Dec, Bow, East London. Constant crying keeps entire hospital
awake first night. Mother reassured my looks may improve in time. This
seems to quiet her.
1968. Join school choir. Told by Master to try something I could be more
tuneful with, “Like a Drumkit!”
1975. Eventually purchase first Drumkit from “Kays” catalogue.
Final payment a week next Thursday.
1976. Join a Marching Band to improve drumming. Quickly disillusioned
as every time I finish setting up my kit the band is 5 blocks away.
1977. Form school band “Cheapskate” First gig in school youth
centre. As I am studying Chemistry I try my hand at a little Pyrotechnics
for a “Grand Finale”. Crowd not too impressed with band but
extremely impressed with efficiency of local fire brigade.
1978. Form “the Strand”. Release EP with local band “Positive
Signals.” Our track “Demolition” gets played on The
John Peel Show. (Demolition was not a ballad)
1982. The two bands merge to form Exposure. While recording 1st album
at Gary Newmans Recording facilities in the Shepperton film studios, I
get to meet Phil Collins. Genesis were rehearsing for their forthcoming
tour. I have since read many biogs about Phil Collins and Genesis and
in none of them does he mention meeting me. I suppose he doesn’t
like to name drop.
1983. Tour extensively, Playing such venues as “The Marquee”
and “The 100 Club”. Release two singles, “Sound Systems”
and “Lovers Rock” followed by the album “Out Of The
Dark...”. Both singles and the album prove very popular and appeared
regularly in the local record stores “Bargain Bin”
1984/5. After several name changes the band settle on “Two Tribes”
and go on to support the likes of “The Jam” “Robert
Fripp” and “David Bowie”. Unfortunately I had previously
decided to pursue a different project and had left shortly before these
gigs were secured. I’m not famous for my decision making!
1985. Buy an electronic kit affectionately nicknamed “The Tupaware”
(Looked like it and didn’t sound much better) . Form “Viewpoint”.
1987 to 2000. Played in several pub bands in various pubs mostly just
for beer.
2001. Rehab.
2002. Form “Monkey See”. (Yes, we do play for peanuts) “Monkey
See” are an Indie/Rock covers band for whom I play drums and occasionally
sing. We play local venues and have a residency at “The Cauliflower”
in Ilford.
2007. Audition for “Los Endos” and get the gig. Alan, Gary,
John and Martin are all extremely talented musicians who should never
become judges on “The X Factor”!
The rest is not yet history, but watch this space...
